Wednesday Amherst Farmers’ Market Workshop Series

wedmarketGrow Food Amherst and the UMass Stockbridge School of Agriculture co-sponsored a weekly series of public events (workshops or public activities – most of them “kid friendly”) at the Wednesday Amherst Farmers’ Market from 4:00pm – 5:00pm during the summer of 2014.

The following events were held!

May 28 – Sally Fitz; Small Ones Farm – helping the bees!

June 4 – The Common School – planting with mud!

June 11 – (Free) Potted Plant for Papa – Emma Golden & Sue Morello

June 18 – Henry & Scully Wilhelm – Local 4-H teens share their experience raising Backyard Bees

June 25 – Evan Curran (lets write a song together)

July 2 – Become a “fungi ally” with Willie Crosby and Sarah Berquist (rained out)

July 9 – Ellie Figueroa will help kids make a luminary jar out of recycled products

July 16 – David Lovler will have fun games for kids to help them learn geometry and symmetry (without knowing it)!

July 30 – John Root will answer gardening questions on perennials

August 27 – Wild Edibles! Join the Acorn Kitchen crew to learn about the wild plants around us, living in lawns, gardens and forests that are good to eat and to use as medicine as we go on a short plant walk around the park. We’ll learn how to identify and use them and get to taste them too. We’ll also learn to make string from plants!

Grow Food Amherst provided a tent and space at the Wednesday Farmers’ Market and promoted the event.  Stockbridge students hosted each of the guest presenters.    Thanks to Market Manger Abby Getman for supporting this project.
